Shamrocks 2nd Grade Deliver Stunning Performance in Comprehensive Victory

Shamrocks 71 – University 7

Woonoona Shamrocks 2nd Grade produced a scintillating display of attacking rugby, running in 11 tries to secure a commanding 71-7 victory that showcased the depth and quality throughout their squad.

Ryan Schoupp emerged as the highest points scorer of the day, not only scoring a try but also maintaining perfect accuracy with the boot, successfully converting eight of the eleven tries. His flawless kicking display contributed 18 points to the team’s impressive tally and demonstrated the high standards that have become synonymous with Shamrocks rugby.

The try-scoring was spread across the team, highlighting the squad’s depth and attacking variety. Robbie Coso led the way with a well-deserved double, showing the pace and finishing ability that has made him such a dangerous weapon this season. His first try came from a sweeping backline move, while his second showcased his individual brilliance as he stepped through the defensive line.

Nicholas Cracknell opened the scoring with a powerful finish, setting the tone for what would become a masterclass in attacking rugby. Harry Linden and Corey Chinnock Clark both crossed the line with clinical precision, while Hagen Degarnham’s try demonstrated the team’s ability to strike from anywhere on the field.

The forward pack made significant contributions to the victory, with Jacobus Newhouse powering over from close range after sustained pressure. The Ridgway brothers, Will and Ben, both found their way to the try line, showing the family’s rugby pedigree and their understanding of the game.

Riley Spajic capped off the scoring with the final try, putting the exclamation mark on a performance that will live long in the memory of all who witnessed it.

The opposition managed just one converted try through Dexter Anderson in the 74th minute, but by then the result had long been decided. Their consolation score came too late to affect the outcome of a match that Shamrocks had controlled from the opening whistle.

The match was notable for the numerous University substitutions made throughout, with several players managing injury concerns. Samuel Murphy was forced off with an injury in the 74th minute, replaced by Morgan Allan, while Campbell Ryan also departed injured to make way for Dexter Anderson, who ironically scored the opposition’s only try.

Liam Walter’s injury substitution in the 74th minute, replaced by Taron Winwood-smith, highlighted the physical nature of the contest, but Shamrocks’ superior fitness and depth allowed them to maintain their intensity throughout the full 80 minutes.

In the Best & Fairest Points allocation for the day, 3 points went to Amenatave Dela Ranitu, 2 points to Corey Clark and 1 point each to Robbie Coso & Harry Linden

This comprehensive victory serves as a statement of intent from Shamrocks, demonstrating their ability to score from multiple phases and maintain defensive discipline when required. The performance will give the coaching staff tremendous confidence as they continue to build toward their championship ambitions.
