Match Report Vikings game

Last Saturday we played Vikings at home. The annual match when two tribes go to war. It was great that Vikings could put two teams on the park this year, after struggling last year. Despite the rain the ground was in good shape.

Second grade got off to a good start with a rolling maul try to Danga. The crowd went wild. Last time he scored a try was in Juniors. After that Shamrocks got to work, they easily settled into their patterns, recycling the ball, hitting up the middle then going wide. This was too much for the much bigger, but less fit Vikings players, the score was 29 to 8 at half time. The second half was more of the same. The Shamrocks players stuck to their patterns, and continued to grind down the Vikings.

Final Score 51 to 8 to Shamrocks.

First grade repeated the second grade approach, some very big Vikings forwards had to be dealt with by the smaller Shamrocks but were overwhelmed by Shamrocks fitness and structured play. The scrum was impressive and held together really well in spite of the size difference. In otherwise well disciplined play, too many passes where going high, particularly to the 5/8, something that will need to be cleaned up against Tech Tahs this week. Despite this Shamrocks just piled on the points, and in my view left a lot of points on the field. It won’t be so easy against Tech Tahs this week.

Final Score 65 to nil to Shamrocks

Despite the scores it is good to see Vikings rebuilding, so that yet again the two tribes can go to war twice a year.
