Woonoona 1st Grade Shamrocks Match Report – Shamrocks Secure Impressive Victory on the Road

Shamrocks Secure Impressive Victory at Ocean Park

Shamrocks 41 – Opposition 15

Woonoona Shamrocks delivered a dominant performance for this Fourth Home Game of the season, running out convincing 41-15 winners in an impressive display that showcased their attacking prowess and defensive resilience.

Shamrocks controlled the match from the opening whistle, with Thomas Ah Tong delivering a masterful hat-trick performance that laid the foundation for a comprehensive victory. The winger showed exceptional pace and finishing ability, crossing the line three times to terrorize the opposition defense.

Isaac Murray proved to be the architect of Shamrocks’ success, not only scoring a try of his own but also maintaining perfect accuracy with the boot, converting three of the team’s six tries. His game management and tactical kicking kept the opposition pinned in their own territory for large portions of the match.

Campbell de Montemas continued his excellent recent form with a well-taken double, demonstrating the clinical edge that has made him such a valuable asset to the team this season. His first try came from a perfectly weighted cross-field kick, while his second showcased his strength in contact as he powered over from close range.

The opposition managed to respond with three tries through Todd Wilson, Jake Rath, and Alex Wise, but their efforts were too little, too late against a Shamrocks side that had already established an unassailable lead. Jack Hannaford’s missed conversion for the final try summed up a frustrating afternoon for the Uni supporters.

Shamrocks’ victory was built on solid foundations, with the forward pack providing excellent ball retention and the backline executing their moves with precision. The tactical substitutions proved effective, with Ryan Schoupp replacing Sam Ridgway to add fresh impetus to the attack.

Despite some late pressure from the opposition, Shamrocks maintained their composure and discipline. Ben Stewart was a significant part of an outstanding team performance.

The match saw Campbell de Montemas receive a yellow card early in the contest, but the team showed excellent character to maintain their advantage even when reduced to 14 men, demonstrating the depth and resilience that has been building throughout the season. In the Best & Fairest Points allocation for the day, 3 points went to Ben Stewart, 2 points to Sebastion James and 1 point to Campbell de Montemas.

This comprehensive victory will give Shamrocks significant confidence as they continue their campaign, with the attacking combinations looking sharp and the defensive structure remaining solid under pressure. The performance bodes well for the challenges that lie ahead.
